Band-winged Grasshopper - Trimerotropis infantilis – The Zayante band-winged grasshopper is a member of the Acrididae family (short-horned grasshoppers). Trimerotropis is a large genus comprising 56 species of small grasshoppers, most looking quite similar. The Zayante band-winged grasshopper was listed as an endangered species on January 24, 1997 (62 Federal Register 3509). Little is known of the life history of this grasshopper. Adults are primarily active between May and August, with peak activity during July and August. Zayante band-winged grasshoppers are found only in the sandy areas of the Santa Cruz Mountains known as the Zayante Sandhills. The habitat is generally open |
